THE ROLE OF MARITIME STAKEHOLDERS IN PREVENTING MARINE POLLUTION IN PAKISTAN

The Directorate General Ports & Shipping Wing Karachi, in line with the vision of Ministry of Maritime Affairs has organized a seminar on “THE ROLE OF MARITIME STAKEHOLDERS IN PREVENTING MARINE POLLUTION IN PAKISTAN” on 06.11.2025 at KPT Staff College to highlight the challenge of marine pollution.

 

The seminar was a part of the Maritime Week activities envisaged by the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs. Speakers from Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board and S-III Project (Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation) participated in seminar. Esteemed academicians and researchers from Karachi University and Bahria University also shared insights on marine pollution, challenges and way forwarded.

 

The seminar highlighted the environmental impact of pollution on port activities, shipping operations and on Pakistan’s coastal ecosystem. The speakers from both federal and provincial governments and academia focused on joint collaborated efforts for improve waste management practices, and ensure scientific monitoring and strengthening inter-departmental cooperation to mitigate the effects of Marine Pollution.

 

The seminar reinforced the commitment of all marine stakeholders to work collectively for sustainable and pollution-free seas. The Director General Ports & Shipping Wing Karachi, reaffirmed its dedication for supporting national and international efforts for ocean conservation and maritime sustainability.
